Training Camp 2008

  1. Wade on the bubble?

    Aug 13, 2008, 12:50 AM EDT

    Comments Off

After spending all of the offseason being among those who were no-brainers to make the Washington Redskins’ 53-man roster, Todd Wade may not be such a sure bet. The reserve tackle currently is sidelined with a sprained ankle that he suffered in the Hall of Fame game against the Colts. While he has been out,…

  2. James practices

Erasmus James proceeded to the next stage of his rehab as he took the practice field for the first time as a member of the Washington Redskins. After three years of struggling with injuries and earning the label of a first-round bust—he was selected 18th overall in the 2005 draft—in Minnesota, he was traded to…

  3. McMullen vs. Mix

    Aug 10, 2008, 12:43 PM EDT

    Comments Off

Even before the draft, it appeared that Billy McMullen was training camp fodder for the Washington Redskins. In four NFL seasons, the former Virginia Cavalier has caught just 45 passes. He managed just 29 in three seasons in the pass-happy Eagles offense before catching 16 last year for the Minnesota Vikings. The Redskins signed him…

We know who’s out on Sunday night; let’s take a look at who’s in on defense: Defensive end Out: Jason Taylor, Chris Wilson, Erasmus James That leaves: Andre Carter, Demetric Evans, Kevin Huntley, Rob Jackson—Carter may or may not be in long enough to break a sweat. Look for a three-man rotation of the other…

  5. Who’s in–offense

If you go here and to a few other sites, you can read plenty about who isn’t going to play against the Colts on Sunday as the Washington Redskins open their five-game grind of a preseason schedule. What’s left for us to figure out, then, is who will play. Here’s a position by position breakdown…

  6. Rogers on the mend

    Jul 31, 2008, 1:01 PM EDT

    Comments Off

According to JLC and other sources, Carlos Rogers’ injured knee is mending well ahead of schedule and he could be ready for the start of the regular season. The concept of Rogers lining up in September seemed farfetched last October when he tore both the ACL and MCL in his right knee in the Washington…

  7. Six wide?

What was thought to be one of the higher-profile, higher stakes training camp battles may not ever happen. After the Washington Redskins drafted receivers Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly in the second round, it appeared that James Thrash and Anthony Mix were headed towards a showdown for the fifth and final WR roster spot behind…

  9. The injury bug bites other teams, too

    Jul 30, 2008, 10:16 PM EDT

    Comments Off

It’s getting to the point where many Washington Redskins fans are afraid to turn on Training Camp Daily on Comcast or click on JLC’s blog. They cringe at the prospect of finding out who got injured today. The Redskins do seem to have a extraordinary number of injuries. It started on the first day of…

I’ve gotten behind a bit, but since I’m not a slave to the 24-hour news cycle, here are some rapid-fire comments about some events over the past few days: Fan Appreciation Day a clusterbomb Go look up “debacle” in the dictionary and you’ll see a picture of traffic in a virtual standstill on the Loudon…

  11. Montgomery out 10 days with broken hand

    Jul 26, 2008, 11:49 PM EDT

    Comments Off

Defensive tackle Anthony Montgomery of the Washington Redskins broke a bone in his right hand during Saturday’s intrasquad scrimmage. He is going to undergo surgery to shore up the bone and he will be sidelined for about 10 days. As injuries requiring surgery go, this one seems to be pretty minor. DT’s hands become banged…

  12. Campbell catching on

    Jul 25, 2008, 11:18 PM EDT

    Comments Off

The word I’ve been getting out of Redskins Park is that Jason Campbell has been struggling somewhat while trying to pick up Jim Zorn’s offense. That’s not what I saw today. Campbell was very sharp in the morning session. On swing passes, he hit backs in perfect stride. While he didn’t hit on every long…

When practice was over, Zorn gathered the team for a good 10 minutes or so. Instead of just giving the lunch and meeting schedule as I've always seen coaches do, he was using it as a teaching moment for the entire team. I'm sure that the players would rather be inside hearing all of that,…

  14. Sellers

If these practices are any indication–and they aren't always–Sellers will have a substantial role in this offense. He's been catching swing passes and running the quick hitter up the middle with regularity. –Sent via Empower HTML Mail Viewer For BlackBerryhttp://www.mobylo.com/emv/ Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

  15. Goal line – betts ok

    Jul 25, 2008, 2:06 PM EDT

The offense and defense are battling to a draw. Sellers poweded in once and caught a swing pass for another TD. A couple of times, though, the back got stonewalled and Andre Carter nailed Shelton for a loss of about seven. Betts is back in; no more such "reports" unless the cart comes out.

. . . The McDonald's in Merrifield, VA. A change in plans delayed my arrival to Redskins Park. Should be there by about 9:00 or so. Before even going out there, however, I am officially changing my view that James Thrash faces an uphill battle to make the team. I wouldn't say that he's on…

This isn’t about to become all Jason Taylor all the time, but with things settling back to normal at Redskins Park as the grind of training camp sets in, it’s a good time to take one last look back at the trade that brought him to Washington. The more I think about it, the more…

  21. Taylor trade gets thumbs up in media

The trade of Jason Taylor to the Washington Redskins is being hailed as a master stroke by many in the national and local media. Peter King on SI.com wrote, “I have to hand it to Snyder and Cerrato. This was a very good trade for them.” King, a noted Skins basher, raved on: The reason…

I don’t usually like to do pull quotes from something I wrote just a few hours ago, but I’ll make an exception in this case: From this article posted today a 4:16 PM EDT: Trading for Jason Taylor and giving up a conditional fifth-round pick and having him work his contract to a cap-friendly deal…

  23. Skins pull the trigger on Taylor

According to multiple sources, the Redskins have traded for Miami defensive end Jason Taylor. It appears that the cost—reported to be a second-round pick in 2009 and a sixth-rounder in 2010—was quite steep for a player who has said he will play for one more season. More coming.

The Washington Redskins lost a second defensive end for the season today as it was announced that Alex Buzbee ruptured his right Achilles’ tendon during the afternoon practice. Phillip Daniels went out in the morning practice with an injured ACL. Unlike Daniels, who was a projected starter, Buzbee was a long shot to make the…
