Reports at filtering in that Gene Upshaw, a Hall of Fame offensive lineman and President of the NFL Players Association, has died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 63. The illness was unreported and his death was entirely unexpected. As a player, he was a career-long Oakland/LA Raider and played in three Super Bowls…

Comments Off on Ranking the Redskins 21-30

It’s time for my annual, purely subjective ranking of the Washington Redskins’ 30 front-line players. The lists consists of the 22 offensive and defensive starters, four special teams positions (place kicker, punter, snapper, and kick returner) and a relief running back, third wide receiver, rotational defensive lineman, and nickel defensive back. The list starts with…

We had a pretty good crowd for last week’s live blog of the Jets game, and we’re going to crank up Cover It Live again for the game at Carolina this coming Saturday. This is the “dress rehersal” game and we should see the starter play for most of the first half. Word is that…

Comments Off on Colt Brennan a modern-day Babe Laufenberg?

The Washington Redskins with a sixth-round quarterback with a cool-sounding name fighting for a roster spot and creating a stir by leading the Skins to dramatic wins in the preseason? Been there, done that. The Cult of Colt was preceded by Save the Babe. Twenty five years ago Babe Laufenberg played the role of underdog…

Comments Off on Skins cut Wallace, sign ex-Terp Holloway

The Washington Redskins made a roster change today, waiving linebacker Rian Wallace and signing LB David Holloway. Wallace recovered from a broken hand to play in Saturday’s game in New York, but he suffered a dislocated shoulder in that game. Holloway came out of Maryland via the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals released him last week.…

Comments Off on Redskins-Jets; After Further Review

Jason Campbell It’s not like going 4 for 10 for 28 yards is completely irrelevant, it’s just incomplete information. It’s like trying to judge a Miss American contestant by looking at one of her arms. Football games ebb and flow. Quarterbacks sometimes start out hot and cool off as the defense adjusts. On other occasions…

Comments Off on It could have been worse, Part 1

The last time the Washington Redskins played the Jets in the preseason, it got ugly early and stayed that way. Here’s my live game blog from FedEx Field on that night in August of 2006. Following the game, Joe Gibbs had the shortest press conference ever. Take a look at Joe Gibbs Anger Management. Pregame…
