Game against Ravens lowered the Redskins offense grade slightly for the year in my view.

While the Redskins offense did not have as many sustained drives as I would like against the Ravens, they still have been an above average offense in the five games this season so I don’t view them as a “C.” It’s probably brought them down to the B-, C+ cusp whereas before I had them as a B- trending upward. As Rich conveyed, they are averaging 366 yards per game (11th in NFL) and 23 points per game (16th).

Need to have better play from Cousins and Jones and perhaps some of the play calling / audibles.

Cooley says on offense, Redskins don’t do enough pre-snap compared to teams that run well, like Falcons and Eagles. We are stagnant; we need to diversify our looks in run. Not enough change in our looks, pre-snap motions, showing what receivers can do in similar formation before running.

Kirk & Matt Jones are back ups. Scott replaced matt flynn with russell wilson I think its time to move on from both. Look at Dallas! We need to draft Leonard Fournette and a QB in 2017.

To me they are average with some above average players. What makes this so? The QB is up and down. He can play lights out and go on a nice streak and yet in the blink of an eye he can throw it all away all on his own. C for Cuz. The offense has to get it together. The team had some real good fortune in Baltimore. The week before Sara helped them out, last week it was Mosely, this week they cannot rely on refs or the opposition to bail them out of situations. Sooner or later all three phases are going to be in lock step. I hope they dismantle the egirls this week.. They have enough to get it done.

I agree, but I also think it’s too easy to pile on Cuz. I’ve been saying for a while, but I just don’t see Jones as a viable solution at RB. He tap dances, hesitates, avoids contact rather than initiate it and doesn’t seem to have good vision or ability to set up defenders. I wanted Kelley/Brown, depending on who made the team, before week 1 and I still do.
It was a mistake to insist on playing Jones, just as much as it was a mistake to keep playing Bruton for four games when he obviously couldn’t get it done. I’m generally in favor of patience. But there needs to be development first. And Jones does the same stuff week in and week out as we move into his second year in the NFL. Either he doesn’t get it or he refuses to get it for some reason. Either way you bench him.

Agreed. Jones always dances instead of putting his foot in the dirt and going. I hope Kelley gets a lot of work this weekend.

          Supporting evidence from Keim:

“The Redskins are averaging 2.70 yards before first contact, according to ESPN Stats & Information, their best showing since the zone-read option days of 2012 (3.56) and ’13 (3.28). But the yards after contact per run hasn’t increased over last year — it remains 1.42. Their yards before contact rank 10th in the NFL; the yards after contact rank 20th.

For Jones, he’s seeing better holes — 2.48 yards before first contact compared to 1.97 as a rookie — and is doing a slightly better job after contact: 1.60 compared to 1.44 last season.

Finally, if you can stand more stats, Jones only managed an average of 1.00 yards after contact vs. Baltimore — but he also had a season-low 1.21 yards before contact. In other words, there weren’t big holes for him and he wasn’t creating more.”

I’d argue that there were holes against B’more — especially early on — in which Jones just didn’t hit. He is fast earning the nickname: “First Contact.”

The line is looking stronger now that Long has taken over at center. I’m more and more inclined to believe the Jones doubters, though the potential is stlll there when he puts his shoulder down and tries to see his holes as he did v. the Browns.

Stats are nice, but in this case misleading. The blocking is much better than last year as far as I can tell. And Jones usually runs for EXACTLY as much ground as the line blocks for. In the Baltimore game he several times ran for much less than the line had blocked for, causing Trent to have words with him after he dallied over the sideline instead of barging forward for extra yards. Jordan Reed is basically a better running back than Matt Jones.
We are all able to see how he stops while tap dancing so he has zero momentum when he finally hits an ex-hole. And he does this almost every single time. I really think he needs to sit and watch for a while. Maybe he can pick up some things that way. Starting games doesn’t seem to be aiding his development in any discernible way.

If Kirk can get that sharpness he had last half of last season back, they could get to A.

      QB = B- ?!?!?!

What QB are we talking about? It can’t be Kirk Cousins? B+ HAHAHAHA!! Top 5 Paid QB Kirk Cousins? B+

Bro, Kirk has played absolutely terrible. Too many mistakes to even try and get into. If he played like this the entire season the Skins will not be extending him to a multi year contract. He is no where near B+ We wish he was playing like a B+
Given him a solid D+ is being nice. He is in full regression mode, It is easy to see. He tore the Eagles up last time they played and i hope he can do the same next week. Good luck Kirk, no excuses, Skins have one of the most talented receiving corps in the league.

You’re completely clueless. First of all Cousins’ worst games are equal to the best we got from Griffin after 12, and therefore a massive upgrade. Secondly, Cousins has produced the best QB performances this team has had since the 90s and then some. Thirdly he is still in the top half of the league’s QBs in every statistical category even with his ongoing slow start. Put Blaine Gabbert on this team and we’re 0-5.
You’re doing what all the clueless fans and Cousins haters always do: obsessing over his poor throws and decisions while ignoring the elite throws he also makes every week. he made at least three of those against Baltimore. Contrary top what you might believe the good throws you are ignoring also count, and they balance out the bad this season. We are winning with him. We would not be winning with any of the last five guys to play QB for the Redskins.

Any further questions you can address right out your window. I’m so tired of having to explain this basic stuff to people. Keep hating and LOLing and remember to disappear completely after every good game from Cousins, just like you did last year. That’s how you make your mark as a real fan who understands football.

You think you are a real fan because you take losses and sh|t play so easily.
You are one of those glass half full type of guys.. good for you.
Because your mentality is the sun always will come up tomorrow and that is supposed to make you a real fan that understands football.
Your thinking is irrational and if you believe in anyway that Cousins has played well than obviously you do not know football. Your not some sort of football God that knows everything. You do not need to explain anything to anyone because no one is listening.
You use our past QB’s as excuses for our current QB. Your arguments are lame.

” Dang, Just hear the bad news about the Wind today. Experts are saying Kirk Cousins does not have a strong enough arm to play in the wind. They are full sh|t. Jackson and Cousins are going to get off today wind or not.

Kirk showed up to the game in Casual Sunday attire. He hardly ever does this and last time he went Casual Sunday he threw 3 TD’s with no picks. Look for Cousins to silent the haters today.”

So I am not allowed to have faith in my QB for one week? Of course things change fast in the NFL. If I say Cousins will have a good game one week that does not mean I am given him a pass on the entire season.

      • bullets2586 - Oct 13, 2016 at 12:31 AM

Actually Cousins is 13th in pay on a one year contract. so try again.

Umm… Those other guys contracts are not fully guaranteed. Also, some of those contracts pay more this year than they do next season. So many of the QB’s will and do not make as much as Cousins. Kirks contract is 100% guranteed. So try again.

        • snyderisanidiot - Oct 13, 2016 at 12:43 PM

Actually, Going by Guaranteed Money Cousins is the 3rd highest paid QB in the league this year.

        • rtcwon - Oct 13, 2016 at 3:47 PM

We all obviously have different opinions on which metric should be the basis to judge his relative performance but here are the actual ranks for each metric:

Base Salary – 1st overall and qb
Cap Hit – 8th overall and qb
          Cash Paid – 15th overall, 9th qb
Contract Avg – 13th overall and qb
          Guaranteed – 130th overall, 26th qb, 7th on Skins

The tag’s value of $19,953,000 is the same for each metric.

Cash paid is past tense while players still have 12 more pay checks to come because the amounts will not change. Contract average is contract value divided by contract years. Guaranteed is monies owed and to be accounted for within the cap regardless of the player ever playing again.

@ idiot – please provide/explain the metric ranking him 3rd. Also, while Kirk has been nowhere near as good as last year’s good, you are an idiot to state he is regressing. None of the five games this year have been as bad as the first Giants game, Atlanta or Jets games last year. You can believe it will happen but claiming it has already happend is idiotic.

    • COSSkinsFan - Oct 12, 2016 at 9:33 PM

I agree with your grades. Despite his frustrating struggles, except for last year and 2012 Cousins has given us the best qb play we’ve had in years. He has missed throws that would’ve resulted in points and huge gains as well as key 3rd down conversions. Even with these issues he has put up big numbers and if we had an average red zone scoring rate, our offense would be high scoring. The most disappointing stat has probably been our inability to score in the red zone. Cousins spoiled us last year with his performance with a nonexistent run game if our run game would come alive, I think his production would significantly improve.

The last sentence sums up my exact feelings on this subject. Although a small sample size, the Ravens had the best defense in the NFL coming into our last game. Any QB would want a functional run game when going up against them.
