OTAs fast five: Redskins missing some pieces

Trent Williams camp RVA 2015

Five quick notes from today’s OTA session at Redskins Park:

  1. DeSean Jackson was absent for the voluntary practice after having participated the last two days. Jay Gruden had no comment but he is confident that Jackson will be ready to go for training camp.
  2. Jordan Reed and Trent Williams also were out. Gruden said that Williams was ill and that Reed was just being given a day off. Reed has been going at it hard during the no-pads practices and perhaps they just want him to dial it down a bit.
  3. Josh Doctson also was sidelined. He said his Achilles was still sore and that rest was the best medicine.
  4. Kirk Cousins was very sharp, during one red zone drill in particular. He showed good touch on a TD pass that Jamison Crowder hauled down in corner and he fired another to Pierre Garcon, who made a diving catch on the sideline.
  5. Kendall Full continues to be a full participant in practice. Concerns over his injured knee are starting to fade away.

How much time is Doctson expected to miss? Will he be ready by next week’s mini-camp?

I don’t know if anyone was/is more excited about Doctson than me. But I think we all need to temper expectations for him in 2016.

The fact of the matter is that we don’t necessarily need him unless an injury occurs. But that’s a good thing. We did things right. We can ease him along instead of forcing a rookie to start before he’s ready. That may not be until next year. Injuries aside, he still may not have our playbook and a NFL rout tree down this year.

So I expect to see him used sparingly, especially in the redzone. But I’m not too worried about the time he’s missing right now. Better to get him healthy and let him grow out of TCU’s spread offense.

        Agree 100%

I expect doctson to big a big part in this offense imo. But other than that I agreem no need to worry about a minor injury in otas

I don’t meant this in a smart ass way: but why? Why would Doctson be a big part of the offense in 2016. He only ran a couple routs in college. Basically just a go rout. He said they never ran double moves at TCU. We have Garcon, DJax, Crowder, Reed, Paul, and Davis as receivers then Jones and Thompson to catch out of the backfield. And only one ball to go around. There’s just no reason to rush him on the field. Might as well ease him along and not out too many miles on him.

I honestly think his body could use the rest too. It seems like he started breaking down last season. He may need time to get healthy and add someone is weight.

We do not need a daily roll call concerning Jackson. He has done this for years. As Jay has said basically..what part of voluntary is confusing? It never helps when the media keep blabbing on about something that is of little concern to anyone but the reporters. He passed up a 500,000.00 dollar bonus for attending voluntary sessions…wasn`t that a clue?

      I think it’s relevant.

Rich is covering what’s happening. You don’t wanna know? Then don’t read about it!

    • Rich Tandler - Jun 9, 2016 at 9:44 AM

If you say you don’t want to read about Jackson being present/absent, that’s obviously your opinion.

I can state, however, that the notion that nobody is interested is categorically false. People read the posts, here and on CSN.

Jay gruden said djax looked stronger and faster then ever the last time he practice said he’s expect djax to attend mini camp next week

Yup. That’s what the article right above says…

      These stories are pointlessly stupid.
