CSN: Is RG3 set up for success in Cleveland?

Mar 24, 2016, 2:33 PM EDT

Is the situation in Cleveland a good one for Robert Griffin III? Tandler takes a look on

  1. ericstylezz - Mar 24, 2016 at 3:17 PM

    Good luck, Dawg!

Its either the biggest mistake that we made or that we avoided.

  2. bangkokben - Mar 24, 2016 at 3:23 PM

It sounds like Czabe won the bet. $3.5 signing bonus plus $3.25 guaranteed salary. Not too shabby. Good luck, Griff! You’re going to need it in Cleveland, but seriously, best wishes.

    Good article, Rich.

I’ll be curious to see how many #10 Griffin shirts in B&G when they visit. That, and #46 Morris’ shirts when the ‘boys visit. I’m sure there will be lamentations no matter what Washington’s record is when these games occur.

I wish he went to the jets simply because it will be a better team around him and he will have weapons…rg3 is going to a team with a bad O-line no WRs its set up around him to fail and on top of that they don’t even got a RB to take the pressure off rg3… I think overall it will be a bad decision for rg3 and its a reason why they only gave him a 2 yr contract they asking him to do the same thing redskins wanted him to do make a chicken out of a chicken salad with little ingredients it just won’t work….the players around the QB have to get better….why you think Denver think mark Sanchez or a rookie can come in and help them get back to the playoffs its because they defensive players and they have a great core group of guys on offense browns got none…mark burnell don’t understand this move neither do I….its just gonna end up leaving another nasty mark on rg3 resume

      Jets would have been better.

      Cleveland better get a center.

    • ET - Mar 24, 2016 at 11:59 PM

I’m concerned for Robert as well. I don’t think that offensive line will be any good this year. At least there’s still a good LT, but man, that line will not help matters one bit. Robert seems to need every last tenth of a second. On the plus side, though, Hue should be a good coach for Griffin.

      • Mr.moneylover - Mar 25, 2016 at 10:23 AM

They O-line gave up 53 sacks last year they lost 2 key players on that offensive line and its expected to get replace by two rookies so its expected to be worst…rg3 gonna play until its a better team around Carson wentz then they gonna kick rg3 to the curb his agent should be fired because its not a smart business move witch can lead him to not bein in the NFL nomore he’s going to a franchise that’s known to kill QBs he will be the 29th

        • John - Mar 25, 2016 at 6:31 PM

For Robert, it was Cleveland or bust. Denver was not interested because of Robert’s attitude. He would not have survived in New York because of the media pressure. I guess Chip Kelly was in a hurry to sign him, not! KC never even looked at him.
Like Cooley said, maybe 3 or 4 possibilities. If Robert was all that, he’d have more folks trying to sign him. As it was, only 2 stops, NYJ and Cleveland. So I guess he is not all that.

    • howie70 - Mar 25, 2016 at 8:59 AM

Well now all the Robert cult followers already have a built in excuse if he doesn’t succeed. It will be all someone elses fault, just like Robert’s fans say about the Redskins.

  4. hail74 - Mar 24, 2016 at 4:33 PM

I hope he does well here but man this team has no talent to help him outside of LT Thomas and TE barnidge. Not a lot of fans here are happy with the move either but I think that’s because like some skins fans, they’re so used to losing that they think every move the FO makes is the wrong one. Local sports guy said it best on radio, “he only came here because no one else wanted him. Why would you try to resurrect your career with a team that has no line, running backs or receivers?”

  5. kenlinkins - Mar 24, 2016 at 5:38 PM

As someone who follows the Cleveland Clowns / Browns this is a match made in football hell. The rumors I am hearing today is that Cleveland wants 1. To place more black faces in the stands 2. Needed a QB who could run for his life in 2016 and has a big name 3. Wanted a QB to play while they groom whoever they draft at QB this year. AND that RG3 wanted 1. The money of $15 million, $7 million guaranteed with a Cap of $22 million (guess if RG3 wins two Super Bowls there a bonus) 2. To play for a black coach who might understand him better 3. A soft roster where he could win the starting job easily. While it would seem that both are getting what they want that this is a case of “Be careful what you wish for”. Just go ask Colt McCoy just how nutty the Cleveland Browns fans are if you are a losing QB. I wish RG3 all the luck in the world but IMO this was a real big gamble that will not pay off for him as every high flying QB to hit Cleveland since they returned to the NFL has crashed and burned.

    • kenlinkins - Mar 24, 2016 at 5:45 PM

PS: As heard today on Cleveland Talk Radio. “What! We signed RG3? I thought we dodged that bullet four years ago’!

      • hail74 - Mar 24, 2016 at 5:57 PM

Haha who was that? Mike Trivisanno was the guy I quoted

        • kenlinkins - Mar 24, 2016 at 6:11 PM

They played it as a “Call of the Day” on a station here in Columbus. Not sure which Cleveland station it was from.

    • goback2rfk - Mar 24, 2016 at 9:44 PM

RG3 to Cleveland?! One of the biggest if not the biggest jokes of an organization the NFL has even seen.
      HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!! F’ You Rg3!

      • Mr.moneylover - Mar 25, 2016 at 10:35 AM

Don’t be mad at rg3… I personally feel sad for rg3 this move can actually end his career he was better off going to the jets or Denver …instead he go to a franchise with many holes and didn’t do nothing in free agency…ima root for the guy because like redskins players said you cant take back what he did here and he made history…Alfred Morris you can’t root for him because he decided to join the enemy and if he has success with Dallas he will likely retire as a Dallas cowboy…I respect rg3 more for going outside the division and he hasnt lost a fan in me…I just wish his agent and the ppl around him made a more smarter move then to join the brown

        • howie70 - Mar 25, 2016 at 11:28 AM

As difficult as your post is to read, I think you’re saying he would be better off going to the Jets or Denver? One problem with that, they evidently didn’t make him an offer. He was a free agent for over 2 weeks and had only one reported offer. Sounds like he had to take what he could get.

    • - Mar 25, 2016 at 2:23 AM

And where are you hearing all of this from? Because I guarantee it’s not from the Cleveland Browns or RG3. I can’t believe I have to tell people this in 2016, but don’t believe everything you read online.

  6. ifthethunderdontgetya™³²®© - Mar 24, 2016 at 7:01 PM

Todd McShay sends us a post from the future. Keim likes it.

I’ve been on board with Billings all along, but some people are saying he’s a later 1st /early 2nd pick now. Could we trade back a few picks and still get him?

And there’s Michael Thomas (OSU). He may slip out of the 1st round, but I don’t think he gets all the way to 53. The OTHER Mike Thomas (Southern Mississippi), otoh, would be a pretty good shot in round 3.

  7. goback2rfk - Mar 24, 2016 at 9:53 PM

Robert Griffin III is named the Week 1 Starter in Cleveland. Congrats to Rg3 who went from being Kirk Cousins toilet paper to the Starter of the worst team in NFL history. I wish you the Best. And F’You Rg3

  8. John - Mar 25, 2016 at 1:26 AM

What did I tell you all. I hate having to gloat but I said all along that RG3 was going to end up in NFL Hell, Cleveland. Next stop, the CFL or Arena…

Cleveland is more than likely giving to draft Went or Goff. That will make Robert look over his shoulder like he did here. He can’t handle competition. This will not go well. Mark my words.

  9. Trey Gregory - Mar 25, 2016 at 2:20 AM

I hadn’t seen that. Tuesdays-Thursday’s are crazy for me and I often miss stuff so thanks.

Very interesting how it’s structured. I think we’re all hoping he maxes it out though. The only way I don’t see him taking most of that home is if he gets injured again or the original injury took too much away. That would almost be weird these days though. Guys come back from injuries like they never have before. Even injuries as bad as an Achillies tear.

  10. Johnnyred - Mar 25, 2016 at 5:07 AM

It was a good start but without the key players on their o-line Rg3 needs to learn to throw on his back. He will be the best Qb the Browns have had in a long time. Good luck to him and thanks for 2012.

  11. Mr.moneylover - Mar 25, 2016 at 10:44 AM

I hate the bitter fans…they act like he going to Dallas we should actually hate Alfred morris more because he sign with the enemy and he talk bad about the redskins O-line saying he signed with Dallas because they have a better O-line and said he was struggling behind a average O-line and Jason Garrett came out said we think morris fell off because the O-line he was running behind and we believe we got the best O-line in the NFL …if that don’t make redskins fans more angry towards Dallas then you not a true redskins fan…they both threw shade on the redskins…ppl mad at rg3 when we should be mad at Alfred morris even scot m. Was kinda piss that he decided to stay in the division even tho shrugged it off like it wasn’t nothing

    • John - Mar 25, 2016 at 12:19 PM

The Skins O line is not the Hogs but then again, Alf was not on point last season. He’ll be in a power running scheme in Dallas just like here. Let’s see if he fails. If anything Garrett will blow it the Cowboys season by insisting in passing 50 times a game which will put Tony at risk of injury again.

  12. greed - Mar 25, 2016 at 12:24 PM

Why we still talking RG3 Gruden wanted him out from day 1, wish him d.young a.morris and k.robinson luck , we have no choice but to move on with a Headcoach who thinks he coaching an arena leauge team and picked a backup QB to lead the team , Great job Gruden

    • John - Mar 25, 2016 at 5:06 PM

I’m had your not in charge of making any football decisions. Then again if Snyder decides to deep six Scott M, he won’t have to look for the next Vinny Cerrato.

Robert : Slit his own throat by being a little itch.
DY: How many teams use fullbacks as a regular position anymore. This team is more effective, when spreading out the field.
K Rob: Play fell off and would not play with minor injuries.

Gruden did not have it in for RGme. Its the coaches job to get the team in a position to win. That was not going to happen with Rob. If you love Rob so much, go get a room with him in Cleveland. Archives
