Need to Know: Kerrigan won’t take this shot at the playoffs for granted

Dec 5, 2015, 5:41 AM EDT

Here is what you need to know on this Saturday, December 5, two days before the Washington Redskins host the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night football.

Kerrigan not taking playoff possibilities for granted

In Ryan Kerrigan’s second year in the NFL, the Redskins went 10-6 and won the NFC East title. Kerrigan figured that playoff trips would be a regular event and that something bigger could be in their near future.

“After 2012 I was thinking, alright, next year we’ll be going deeper in the playoffs, probably going to the Super Bowl. I just thought it would happen because that’s how it’s going to happen,” said Kerrigan. “That’s far from the case.”

Indeed it has been. Over the next two seasons the Redskins won a total of seven games and they generally were out of playoff contention by the time Thanksgiving rolled around.

But this year is different. The Redskins are square in the middle of the postseason hunt as we head into December, tied for the division lead with an edge over the Giants. Kerrigan knows not to take it for granted.

“You definitely appreciate it a little more,” said Kerrigan. I think when you have veteran guys who have experienced both the playoffs and losing, they don’t take it for granted. You see them working harder, doing extra practice and making sure we stay in this position.”

Today’s schedule: Practice 11:55; Jay Gruden and Sean McVay news conferences and player availability after practice approx. 1:30.

Days until: Monday night Cowboys @ Redskins 2; Redskins @ Bears 8; Bills @ Redskins 15

Nobody on the team should take these games coming up for granted…I just don’t want the team to shoot they self in the foot…I want this team to stay hungry

After a slow start to the season Kerrigan needs to pound Matt Cassell a$$ like Ray Rice’s wifey.
I would like to see Kerrigan with another 2 – 3 sack game along with 2 TFL.
I am really hoping for a NY Giants loss and a Redskins win. That would be my dream come true.
And for Kirk ‘franchise’ Cousins I want to see some good decisions out there on the National Stage.
I want to see the ‘you like that’ game chant at the end of this one.

Up here in the NYC area (actually checking out the city’s holiday decorations today! Me, the wife, my kid — the “New Yorker” — and about 5 million other gawkers!!) many feel
that this is the Jets game to
      lose! Better along both lines.
But the NYJ’s secondary in minus Revis (AND his backup?), so maybe Eli can make hay … IF he gets time from his dumpster-fire o-line. BIG “if”.

(Then the Skins gotta take care of business too, of course.)

True story. Yesterday I was sitting in a big traffic jam and I left a gap in front of me to allow opposing traffic to turn left into a parking lot. Holiday spirit kind of stuff. A car pulled up to exit that lot to my right and gestured with a glance, “May I cut in front of you when traffic moves?” I gave the approval nod and he waved a thank you, twice. To be sure I knew he knew I was being courteous. Seconds later, as he pulled in front of me I saw his license plate frame with bold print, “Dallas Cowboys”. Instinctively, I punched the accelerator and smashed the back of his stupid car. True story. It’s Dallas week.

    go jets
    go pats

All we have to do now is take care of our own business and we will win. Lots of disappointment in the recent past but I’m liking this team right now. Even Steve Young is saying positive things about them. What could possibly go wrong?

How long have you been a Redskins fan. With that last statement are you kidding me. I am just hoping for a good game if we win even better. To say that you don’t know the Redskins.

No it doesn’t. Your statement shows that you haven’t been paying attention this season. Maybe you’re the one who isn’t a Redskins fan. Archives
