Can the Redskins score the sweep of the Cowboys?

Dec 27, 2014, 10:00 AM EDT

Eagles (9-5) @ Redskins (3-11)
FedEx Field
Saturday, 4:30 p.m.
NFL Network

We’re changing up the format of the prediction post here. I’m going to give my take and then turn it over to the fans who sent me their predictions via Twitter (@Rich_TandlerCSN) and on the Real Redskins Facebook page.

So what will happen?

I usually spend a few paragraphs here and throw out a few numbers and go over some of the matchups. But you can throw the book out in this game. Not because it’s a rivalry game but because it will come down to which team is motivated and how long the Cowboys will play their starters.

Jason Garrett has said that he will play his top-line players because there is something at stake. Well, yes, but the Cowboys only benefit from a win if the Lions and Packers tie. Sure, Garrett would take some heat if he started Brandon Weeden at QB, the Cowboys lost, and that improbable tie happens at Lambeau Field.

The smarter play is to pull Romo early before one of Jim Haslett’s zero blitzes has a chance to injure his back again and to keep DeMarco Murray on the bench in sweats. That’s how I think Garrett will play it.

That should leave the door wide open for the Redskins to win. After all, they were able to do so in Dallas with the Cowboys playing everyone. But, then again, the Redskins lost to the Bucs so they’re capable of losing this one. The could blow it but I don’t think they will.

Redskins 28, Cowboys 17

(predictions record this year 9-6)

Here are some of the better fan predictions that came my way on Twitter and Facebook:

Unlike the previous few times we’ve done this, the fans were very optimistic with nearly all of them predicting a Redskins win or, in a few cases, a tie (come on, make up your minds).

As a cowboy fan I could care less who wins. At least we cannot be knocked out of playoffs by week 17 loss.

Rich, In the first Dallas game, when Romo was on the field, Haslett came after him with everything he had and got very good results (5 sacks), but when Weeden entered the game he started dropping back into zones giving him all day to throw (4 of 6 for 70 yards). Weeden only played about 10 snaps and put up 10 points. IMO Dallas will play Weeden most of the game to protect Romo’s health for the play-offs. Any idea why Haslett changed when Weeden came in the game? I hope Haslett learned something after giving up 10 points on 10 plays in 10 min to Weeden and doesn’t start dropping into zones to often.

Skins win 21-17 with santana getting a last td vs cowboys. …..(8-7 season record)

      Cowboys 31- Redskins 17
After the beating the Cowboys gave the
Colts….I have no worries on how they will preform against the Redskins.
The adrenaline is high…yea they probably won’t use Romo..saving him for the playoffs is the right way to go.
If they don’t win it doesn’t really matter…their still in…and the Redskins are not even close .

The joke of a team is last place in the division again, as usual.

  5. gasngo14 - Dec 27, 2014 at 6:28 PM

I would love another win over the girls and top it off with Romo taking a BIG hit from RK!

  6. pd9971 - Dec 27, 2014 at 7:12 PM

I will drink one in honor of your redskins while I watch the boys!!! In the playoffs. Stop being bitter and sad. It is just a game. We all have to live our lives no matter who wins.

Says the Cowboys fan who leaves comments on a Washington based sports site, that’s what I call sad.

Yes WAS could win this game but don’t get all excited about it if we will be our starters against their 2nd and 3rd stringers…it will be a hallow victory at best. Do you actually think DAL has any interest in exposing their starting unit to the worst turf in the NFL on a day that is supposed to be wet and cold? That field is bad enough when conditions are perfect but when it is wet, IMO it is actually dangerous to play on….but the real question has to be can WAS with its starters on the field beat DAL that will not be playing its starters…however, if DAL wins and IMO DAL can beat WAS even without its starters, then it would be a major set back to WAS in the off season. But again, its really a meaningless game unless you think theres something significantly different between ending the regular season last in the division again and no where near the POs with either a 4-12 record or a 5-11 record. Beating DAL in a meaningless game will not give WAS anything to hope for next year and will still leave a sour taste in the mouths of the players and fans…..unfortunately for WAS, DAL has bigger fish to fry than beating a last place team.

    • bangkokben - Dec 28, 2014 at 10:22 AM

FYO and F you. So its only a meaningless game if the ‘skins win but has meaning if they loose?!!! Once again, Child Please!!! Sure there is little difference between 4-11 and 5-12 considering last place in the division is set and the draft spots are likely set as well.

But a two game improvement over last year is still an improvement. Moreover, 3-3 in the division would be three game improvement and significant. And despite the apparent large gaps between the other three teams in the division it would be something tangible to build on next year playing the NFC South and AFC East.

So let Dallas play who it plays and here’s to breaking Romo’s back in three straight games.

      • polofourme - Dec 28, 2014 at 5:17 PM

Maybe in your tantrum you somehow missed the fact that I said it was basically a meaningless game for both teams…the only advantage to DAL if they win, and SEAT and another team tie, they might be able to get a bye….and of course, buy maybe you missed it but WAS got creamed….and Griffin stunk the place up with his poor play even when Gruden dialed up behind the LOS pass’s and short down and outs/ins to try and protect Griffin from making the inevitable mistake(s) he was bound to make…so wishing a player gets injured perfectly describes the kind of individual you are…pathetic.

  10. colmac69 - Dec 28, 2014 at 1:44 PM

Game b over before ht…..dallas 209 yrds first qtr alone…..guess they turned up to play….after pass to jackson skins have 2 three outs

Why must you assault the English language? What did it ever do to you?

      • colmac69 - Dec 28, 2014 at 2:36 PM

When you use your mobile to post messages on here its easier for myself to shorten some words………however if you would like me to post messages in my own language (which is scottish) I will b glad too….doubt my american friends would understand a lot of it though. …… Archives
