On his regular radio appearance on DC101, Chris Cooley said that he will meet with Jim Zorn today about his immediate future with the team. Cooley said that he expects to be placed in injured reserve, ending his season.
Cooley has been sidelined since breaking a bone in his ankle against the Eagles on October 20. Although the initial diagnosis was that he would miss the rest of the season, there was some hope that he would miss just four weeks after surgery.
It now appears that the initial diagnosis may have been accurate. Today, four weeks after the injury, his foot is still in a boot for another 10 days. After that there likely would be at least two weeks of rehabilitation. That means that the earliest game he could play in is the December 21 game against the Giants. He would play in just three games and, with the team rapidly fading out of the playoff picture, it appears that the best move may be to shut down his season and let him heal for 2010.
If Cooley does go on injured reserve the will be the fourth player this week moved to that list. The team has signed two players, running back Marcus Mason and guard Paul Fanaika, so two more players will be added in the coming days.

Cooley should go on IR as should Portis. The Redskins need to continue to let Fred Davis develop so that he and Cooley can truly be the 1-2 punch at tight end that the team envisioned when Davis was drafted.
Portis needs to sit for his sake and the team. let’s see what Mason can do now that he will get consistent carries. Rock playing will also allow Devin Thomas to return kicks which will also be important to see for next year.
now all the ’skins have to do is to find someone to return punts and we will plenty to root for and watch as this otherwise dim season draws to a close.
it’s all about next year as afar as i see it.
