Redskins sign P Glenn Pakulak to PS

The Washington Redskins aren’t quite ready to give up on Hunter Smith just yet.

They signed punter Glenn Pakulak to a contract today, but the deal was to a spot on the practice squad.

Wide receiver Trent Shelton was released from the PS to make room.

Pakulak is in his second season out of Kentucky. He was the Saints’ punter for half of the season in 2008 with 24 kicks for an average of 47.7 yards and a net of 37.8.

Apparently they will wait until the last minute to make a change to the 53-man roster. It seems that there is a chance that Smith will be ready to go. The signing of Pakulak allows them to get him into practices and ready to go if needed.

Per Jason Reid and others:

The Redskins are Pakulak’s ninth NFL team. He previously played for the Bears, Falcons, Jets, Raiders, Steelers, Titans, Seahawks and most recently, the Saints.

Okay, so we’re all about being pro-active when it comes to our punter. Why is it, our Front Office sticks there heads in the sand year after year when it comes to our most pressing need, namely the OFFENSIVE LINE…I don’t get it!!

Don’t get me wrong, I understand the monumental importance of having a good punter, so I get this move I really do. I just don’t see why we can’t take care of our O-line with the same urgency!!!
