Redskins Will Get One Comp Pick

Mar 23, 2009, 8:23 PM EDT

The NFL has announced that the Washington Redskins will receive one compensatory pick in the upcoming NFL draft.

The pick will be the 34th of the seventh round or, if you want to look at it more logically, the second pick of the eighth round.

The picks are awarded based on a super double-secret formula that is based on the net free agents a team signed and lost. Criteria such as salary, playing time, and season honors such as Pro Bowl appearances are factored in.

It appears that the Redskins’ pick is based on the departure of Mark Brunell to the New Orleans Saints. He appeared in mop up duty in two games, attempting no passes. It’s likely that his salary was sufficient to generate the late pick.
