Prime Time Live Blog

Oct 31, 2008, 9:21 AM EDT

You know the drill by now. It’s a home game, so the live blog will come from the “the 1990’s called and they want their technology back” press box at FedEx Field. That means the blog will be updated quarter by quarter as events unfold. I’ll pop in with an update via the BlackBerry should events warrant. You can leave comments on the game blog posts and I’ll get them and respond as needed.

Also, a note on the blog schedule this week. As you may have seen, the Flashback Friday post came a couple of days early. My game prediction, which I usually put up on Thursday, will go up on Monday morning. I’ll probably post something over the weekend if my schedule permits.

Rich, an interesting question for this weekend: who should Skins fans root for, the Giants or the Cowboys? The answer, I think, depends on how optimistic you are about the Skins’ season.

Traditionally, we’d root for the Giants here. Not only are the Cowboys slightly more intrinsically loathsome, but they’re also on the ropes — and since we need at least ONE divison team to have a total failure of a season, why not the ‘girls? The Giants are practically a lock to make the playoffs anyway, it would seem, and Dallas is a more likely Wild Card rival. So… Go Giants?

Actually, I think I’m going to swallow my hatred and root for the Cowboys (or rather — against the Giants) this weekend. The reason is simple: if the Redskins want to really make any noise this season — something bigger than the 1 or 2 and done Gibbs playoff appearences — we’re going to need to win the division. I don’t think the Giants are such world-beaters that that’s impossible. So we need them to lose a few more games — starting this week. I’m optimistic enough about the Skins that I don’t think we’ll need to be gritting it out for that 6th wild card seed this year…

Who are you rooting for (er, against), and why?

I agree for the same reason–if the Skins are going to make some noise this year they need at least a home game if not a bye. It’s better if the team in front of them loses.

Besides, there is no downside to rooting this way. Either you get what you want or Dallas loses. Either way it’s a good day.
