Springs out

The accidental kick in the calf that Shawn Springs received from teammate Marcus Washington in practice earlier this week turns out to be a real kick in the ass for the Skins’ defense.

Word from the swamps of Jersey is that Springs is out for tonight’s game against the Giants.

That moves Fred Smoot up into the starting lineup and Leigh Torrence into the nickel spot. Should one of them get nicked up, Justin Tryon, NFL history’s most maligned player who never has taken a snap, will be forced into action.

Springs was listed a probable on the final injury report.

Jason Taylor might be able to help mitigate Springs’ absence to some extent. It appears that he may play on a limited basis, which means third downs.
