Report: Gene Upshaw dies at 63

Reports at filtering in that Gene Upshaw, a Hall of Fame offensive lineman and President of the NFL Players Association, has died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 63.

The illness was unreported and his death was entirely unexpected.

As a player, he was a career-long Oakland/LA Raider and played in three Super Bowls for the Silver and Black.

As head of the NFLPA, he has presided over 20 years of relative labor peace in pro football. There has been a movement afoot to replace him.
