Sure, I wish we'd had more depth on the DL, but you just can't be fully stocked all the way across the board. As recent Redskin history makes clear (and Rich emphasizes), there is good reason that the draft's top 4 priorities were Offense, Offense, Offense, and Offense (I wish we'd taken a lineman earlier, but maybe Rinehart will prove me wrong). <br/><br/>Taylor's 34, but if you look at the trajectories of other special DEs with over 100 career sacks, there are plenty of guys who still came up big at that age (Bruce Smith, Reggie White, Chris Doleman, Michael Strahan, and John Randle each had 19+ sacks in their age 34 and age 35 seasons). Sure, there's a chance he'll get hurt, get distracted, or get old all of a sudden... but I think he's a good bet for 10 sacks this year and 8+ next year. Not to mention causing turnovers, ever the achilles heel of a Redskins defense, and Taylor's particular strong suit. He's the active NFL leader (by a long shot) in Fumble Recoveries by a defensive player, and he has more Recoveries + Forced Fumbles than BSmith, RWhite, MStrahan, RDent and almost every other all-time great DE. He's worth a second round pick. It’s a good deal. Sure, I wish we’d had more depth on the DL, but you just can’t be fully stocked all the way across the board. He makes the defense a lot better this year, and without him, given the circumstances, they would have been a lot worse. I think he elevates the entire defense, especially Andre Carter and the entire secondary, who now are not battling a quarterback with three days to throw the ball.<br/><br/>You could say the Skins should have drafted at DL, but even then you'd have a rookie in there, and the skins would have gone after Taylor.<br/><br/>I think this is an example of making lemonade from some serious lemons. But I'm actually a little surprised that the Skins didn't part with a 1st rounder, at least a conditional one. With the high draft picks given up for much less talent in recent years, I bet some people in Miami are disappointed that the Dolphins didn't get as much as other teams have (Denver, San Francisco, Atlanta, etc.) in trades with the Skins.
